Anglican Church creeps into the 21st Century
The Australian reports that the Anglican Appellate Tribunal has come to the stunning conclusion that there is no constitutional restriction on women taking the top job at the church. The objection to the ban on women taking the job was raised in 2005 — the decision to join the 21st century took around 2 years.
The Arch Bishop says:
“There will be some in our family who will be unhappy with this ruling and it is now our urgent duty to offer care for those who retain a conscientious objection to women bishops.”
Conscientious Objection? Urgent Duty? To help some backwards men, stuck in the church’s misogynistic past?
As usual, religion lags behind the rest of society in accepting what should be blindly obvious. If Christianity is such a force for good in our world, why is it in 2007 women are only just being recognised as equal to men?
